Classes

Introduction to Japanese painting

In this course you will learn to use different sumi ink tones and brush techniques to create traditional Japanese calligraphy and sumie ink paintings on washi paper made from the mulberry. You will express words and paintings variously with brush pressure, rhythm, tones and confidence in your strokes. You'll not only learn brush stroke techniques but also about the history of calligraphy and the meaning of certain Japanese characters so you don't need to know any Japanese to begin.
