Clay gives form, while the brush leaves movement behind.

For more than 35 years, Terunobu Hirata has devoted himself to ceramics, exploring the possibilities of clay, form and glaze. Junko Azukawa began studying Japanese calligraphy as a child and has spent many years exploring calligraphy and Sumi ink painting. For their first exhibition together, they have brought their distinct forms of expression into dialogue.

These works did not come easily. They emerged through repeated failures, experiments, reconsiderations and countless attempts to find new ways forward. Through this process, they discovered possibilities for an expression that could not have been reached alone.

Here, clay and brushstroke meet in a quiet dialogue.

In the quiet of the night,

an owl found a place between shadow and light.

He didn't need to fly.

He waited -

listening to the silence,

until the light found him.
